Transportation emissions in Lebanon: Extent and mitigation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Transport related emissions have been long associated with adverse impacts on air quality particularly in densely populated urban areas. This paper evaluates the contribution of the road transport sector, in a typical small developing country, to air pollutants emissions. The Motor Vehicle Emission Inventory (MVEI) computer based model, with inputs adjusted to the fleet and conditions at hand, is used to predict the contributions of different classes of vehicles and to forecast the corresponding emissions for the year 2020. Emissions reduction and the sensitivity to changes in factors such as fleet age, fleet technology, average speed and travel volume are assessed. Apart from the do-nothing scenario, two scenarios are developed to explore the feasibility and benefits of different mitigation approaches. The first scenario investigates the mitigation potential of measures related to the fleet age and new technology application. The second scenario addresses the effectiveness of transport planning and demand reduction in decreasing emissions. The results show various degrees of success in reducing emissions of different pollutants. Mitigation measures best applicable in Lebanon, economically and technologically, are presented. The need for an air quality management plan for the application of these mitigation measures is illustrated. Finally, a general framework for air quality management is developed.

Trends in CO2 Emissions from China-Oriented International Marine Transportation Activities and Policy Implications
The demand for marine transportation and its associated CO2 emissions are growing rapidly as a result of increasing international trade and economic growth. An activity-based approach is developed for forecasting CO2 emissions from the China-oriented international seaborne trade sector. To accurately estimate the aggregated emissions, CO2 emissions are calculated individually for five categorie...

As the major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, cities have been under tremendous pressure of energy conservation and emission reduction for decades. Community is the main unit of urban housing, public facilities, transportation, and other properties of city's land use. The construction of low-carbon community is an important pathway to realize carbon emission mitigation in the context of...
متن کاملInventory and Policy Reduction Potential of Greenhouse Gas and Pollutant Emissions of Road Transportation Industry in China
In recent years, emissions from the road transportation industry in China have been increasing rapidly. To evaluate the reduction potential of greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions of the industry in China, its emission inventory was calculated and scenario analysis was created for the period between 2012 and 2030 in this paper. Based on the Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning System (LEAP...
